YOUR RIGHTS AS A DATA SUBJECT

Using the contact details above, you can exercise the following rights at any time:

  • access to the data we hold about you and how it is processed (Art. 15 GDPR),
  • rectification of inaccurate personal data (Art. 16 GDPR),
  • erasure of the data we hold about you (Art. 17 GDPR),
  • restriction of processing where we are not yet allowed to erase your data because of legal obligations (Art. 18 GDPR),
  • objection to the processing of your data by us (Art. 21 GDPR), and
  • data portability where you have consented to the processing or concluded a contract with us (Art. 20 GDPR).

If you have given us your consent, you can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future.

You can lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority at any time, for example the authority of the place where you live or the one responsible for us: Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit, Alt-Moabit 59–61, 10555 Berlin, Germany, https://www.datenschutz-berlin.de.

VISITING THE WEBSITE AND SERVER LOGS

Nature and purpose of the processing:

When you open this website, your browser sends technically necessary information to our server: your IP address, date and time, the address requested, the amount of data transferred, the page you came from, and your browser and operating system. The server records this information in log files. They serve the secure and reliable operation of the website and are not combined with other data.

Legal basis:

Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest is the secure and stable operation of the website.

Recipients:

The website and its content management system run on a server of Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany, in a data centre in Germany. Hetzner and our technical service provider for operating and maintaining the website process the data on our behalf.

Storage period:

The log files are rotated weekly and deleted after about five weeks.

COOKIES

Without your consent this website only sets cookies that are necessary for it to work:

  • i18n_redirected – remembers the language in which you use the website. Lifetime: one year.
  • acceptedCookies, acceptedGoogleAnalytics and acceptedVideos – remember your choice in the cookie notice and your consent given at an embedded video. They last until you close your browser.

The legal basis is Section 25(2) of the German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act (TDDDG) in conjunction with Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Further cookies are only set by Google Analytics, and only if you agree in the cookie notice (see below).

AUDIENCE MEASUREMENT WITH PLAUSIBLE ANALYTICS

Nature and purpose of the processing:

To understand how our website is used, we use Plausible Analytics. Plausible works without cookies and stores nothing on your device. It records the page visited, the referring page, browser, operating system, device type and the country derived from the IP address. The IP address itself is not stored: together with other details it is turned into an identifier that changes every day and cannot be traced back, which makes it possible to count the visits of one day. Individuals cannot be recognised with it, and no user profiles are created.

Legal basis:

Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest is to evaluate the use of the website statistically and to improve it.

Recipients:

We do not use Plausible as a service of its provider but run the software ourselves: it is operated by our technical service provider on a server of Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany. The data is not passed on to third parties.

USE OF GOOGLE ANALYTICS

Nature and purpose of the processing:

Only if you click “Accept” in the cookie notice, Google Analytics 4 is loaded in addition, a web analytics service of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland (“Google”). Google Analytics sets cookies (_ga and _ga_TZ60C3WPCS, lifetime up to two years) and uses them to record how you use the website: pages visited, time spent, approximate location, and details of your device and browser. According to Google, Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses.

We do not use Google Analytics for advertising: the consent signals for advertising purposes stay set to “denied” even after you have agreed, and no advertising or remarketing script is embedded in this website.

Legal basis:

The processing is based on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, Section 25(1) TDDDG).

Recipients:

The recipient of the data is Google as a processor. We have concluded the corresponding data processing agreement with Google.

Storage period:

Google Analytics deletes user- and event-related data once the retention period set there has expired, after 14 months at the latest.

Transfer to third countries:

Data may be transferred to Google LLC in the USA. Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework; the transfer is therefore covered by an adequacy decision of the European Commission.

Whether providing the data is required:

Providing your personal data is voluntary and based solely on your consent. Without consent you can use the website without restriction; only embedded videos are then not shown.

Withdrawing consent:

You can withdraw your consent at any time. To do so, close your browser or delete the cookies of this website: on your next visit the cookie notice appears again and you can choose “Decline”. In addition, you can prevent Google Analytics from recording your visits with the browser add-on Google provides at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=en.

EMBEDDED VIDEOS FROM YOUTUBE AND VIMEO

Nature and purpose of the processing:

Some project pages show videos that are hosted on YouTube or Vimeo. They are only loaded once you have agreed in the cookie notice or directly at the video; before that there is no connection to these providers. After you have agreed, your browser loads a preview image and, when you play the video, the provider’s player. The provider receives your IP address and technical details of your browser and may set cookies of its own.

Agreeing directly at a video applies to embedded videos only; it does not activate Google Analytics.

Legal basis:

Your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, Section 25(1) TDDDG). You withdraw it as described above for Google Analytics.

Transfer to third countries:

Both providers may process data in the USA. Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework; according to its own statements, Vimeo also relies on the Data Privacy Framework for the transfer.

CONTACT BY EMAIL OR PHONE

If you write to us or call us, we process your details (such as your name, email address and the content of your message) in order to deal with your request. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where a contract or steps prior to a contract are concerned, otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. We delete the data as soon as it is no longer needed for this purpose and no statutory retention obligations apply.

JOB APPLICATIONS

If you apply for a job with us, we process the data you send us for that purpose exclusively for the application procedure (Section 26 of the German Federal Data Protection Act, Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). If no employment relationship comes about, we delete your documents after the procedure has ended, as soon as they are no longer needed.

LINKS TO SOCIAL NETWORKS

Our website links to our profiles on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn and, for individual projects, to YouTube and Instagram. These are plain links: data is only transferred to the respective provider once you click one of them.

SSL ENCRYPTION

To protect your data in transit, we use state-of-the-art encryption (such as SSL) via HTTPS.

CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY

We reserve the right to adapt this privacy policy so that it always meets current legal requirements, or to reflect changes to our services, for example when new services are introduced. The new privacy policy then applies to your next visit.
